what-to-do
The Student Society (Cercle des Élèves)
The Student Society organises leisure activities for students. It is run by the students themselves and takes part in all kinds of cultural, humanitarian and sporting activities.
The club is in charge of numerous student evenings and organises large events such as the “cartel des Mines” which brings together students from European Schools of Mines for a 3 day Omni-sport challenge. It also organises the traditional School Gala which brings together more than 3,000 people and a wide range of other activities. Organised and run by students, the Club is open to those who want to participate in different sports clubs and to those who wish to develop new skills and discover new activities.
Students can participate in all activities (a 50 EUR per year contribution is requested).
The School’s International Students Association (A.I.M.A.)
The A.I.M.A was created in February 1998.
About 35 different nationalities are represented at the school amongst students, doctorate students, staff members and trainees.

top-3-questions
Questions & Answers
1. What budget should I plan ?
Alès is not the most expensive city in France, and if you live at the “maison des élèves”, you should be able to have a reasonable monthly budget:
> housing costs: 200€
> food: 300€ (if you go to the cantina)
> transport & extras: 150€
Here is a list of some price example that you can find in Trondheim
> Meal at the School restaurant of Alès: ~4.00 EUR
> Loaf of Bread: ~0.80 EUR
> Litre of Milk: ~0.65 EUR
> Fast Food Restaurant: ~7.00 EUR
> Drink at a Café: ~1.80 EUR
> Menu in a Restaurant: from 10 EUR
> Pack of 4 Yoghurts: ~1.80 EUR
> Sandwich: ~3.00 EUR
> Cinema: ~8.50 EUR
> Newspaper: ~1.00 EUR
2. What is the weather ?
Well, Alès is in the south of France, so you should not be disapointed. The summer might be really hot, when spring should be really really nice. You can expect to be in tee-shirt from April. However, the winter can be cold, and it can snow. For fall time, it might be really rainy, even with some floods, but it might also be quite warm.
3. Should I take my car ? Or buy a bike ?
The distance between the “maison des élèves” and the school is important if you want to walk, but really ok by bike. The best is definitly the car, since the bus network is really bad, and since all parking around the school are free. If you do not have car, you will most likely find friends with a car, or people in departure to the school at the same time as you. Just ask for a lift
