Students from around the world choose to earn their degrees at NTNU — and you can, too. With no tuition feesand world-class research and educational facilities, NTNU offers outstanding educational value.

One of the key questions you have to answer before you study for a degree at NTNU is whether you will study inEnglish or Norwegian, because your choice of language will affect your choice of degrees and the admissions requirements for those degrees. Here’s what you need to know to earn your degree at NTNU:

housing

Where to live ?

The best solution for housing in Trondheim is to use SIT, which offers housing for students taking courses in the NTNU.  Be aware that the number of places is limited, so you must send your application at least 3 months in advance. The two main student villages are called Moholt and Berg. Here are some usefull informations:

What price do you have to pay ?
All of our international residents are required to pay a deposit of NOK 5000,- (single room) when signing the contract. The giro is found in the same document as your contract. A transfer would take approx 14 days, so please email the receipt toghether with your signed contract. An international bank will often charge a fee aswell, so you should consider transferring a higher amount (e.g NOK 5100). If you pay too much, this will be withdrawn from your first bill.
Who can apply ?
If you are an international student attending an exchange program, contact the International Office at NTNU or HiST, and they may book a room for you. PhD candidates can not apply for SiT housing.
How to get there ?
The first student village is about 5 minutes by bike and 20 minutes by car from the University, and about the double for the city center. The second is closer from both the city center & the university, but it is also smaller.
How are the flats ?
The flats are always quite new, and also quite cosy. You will probably share a bathroom and kitchen with up to 3 flatmates. The kitchen has an oven, sometimes dishwasher, and all the equipement to make the food. The room is a standard student room with a desk and a bed. Internet is available with cable link.
Tips about housing
The student village “Berg” is closer from center and University, and is also brand new. When you make your application for housing, it does not hurt to say that you would like to be in Berg. The Moholt student village is also separated in 2 streets. You should better apply for the street “Moholt Alle” than the street “Herman Krags”: the first one has dish washer in the kitchen

Well, you will guess that it is quite cold !
From September to November, it will be rainy, and between 0 and 10 deg. From December to April, it will be a lot of snow, and could be as cold as -25deg. Spring and summer might be quite nice, but you will almost never see temperature over 25deg. But you could easily meet a 5deg in a morning of July.
It is as dark in winter as it is light in Summer. But no worries, it is always some light ! And the cold days might show some very nice colors in the sky. If you are afraid of the winter night, you might choose to buy a fake sun light lamp, or to eat some fish oil pills. No jokes, it really works ! And remember that after the Winter, you will have plenty of light for 4 months !

3. Should I take my car ? Or buy a bike ?
If you are coming from Europe, you might like to have a car in Trondheim. The buses are quite expensive, and it is nice to have a car if you want to travel a bit in Norway.
